Thursday Shows

Yeasayer (photo from r5productions)

Following a great start to the week and month, Thursday has a bunch of shows to check out.

After a night in the District, Yeasayer is coming to the First Unitarian tonight for their first Philly show in almost a year. IPod commercial featured artist Chairlift joins them.

Bluegrass meets punk sprinkled with Celtic overtones is probably one of the best ways to describe O'Death. If you have not seen them live, it is well worth the show. The entire band is shirtless and sweaty by the end of the night. Head on over to the Black Cat tonight. Local indie faves Wye Oak (nee Monarch) are also on the bill.

The Troc hosts a stellar line-up with Nada Surf along with Delta Spirit and The Jealous Girlfriends.

Originally a side project, Darker My Love has turned into a full time gig for Andy and Tim of the Distillers and Nerve Agents. You can catch them at Johnny Brenda's in Fishtown with Austin's The Strange Boys and locals Asteroid No. 4.

David Byrne @ The Strand (York, PA)

A Definate Treat: O'Death and Hoots for Halloween

O'Death and Hoots & Hellmouth. Scaryish names, not so scary music. They are playing back-to-back shows at Johnny Brenda's for your Halloween pleasure. Don't worry about the 70's freaks downstairs, unless you are one of them (yeah, 70's costume party Friday). The good stuff is happening upstairs. Friday, Hoots is headlining the show, then the switcheroo happens for Saturday with O'Death closing out the night. Each night also has a different opener. Friday, Pepi Ginsberg is slated to start of the holiday activities. Saturday, The Extraordinaires make sure the post-candy hangover is completely shaken off.

O'Death

New York's O'Death is set to drop their new album Broken Limbs, Hymns and Skin at the end of October. In preparation for the release, they are in the midst of a massive tour. Over the next couple days, they are rolling through southeastern PA with two shows before heading over seas for some European dates. Thursday night, they are at Mulbury Arts in Lancaster (different venue, was scheduled for Ad Lib). Friday they are playing Swarthmore College. If you miss them this week, they will be back at Johnny Brenda's in November.
