Elvis Is Entering The Building

No, not the one who has been dead for so long. The music-maker and lyricist with little equals, Elvis Costello is coming through the IA viewing area over the next few weeks. I got to see him a few years ago and his energy on stage is amazing. He always breaks out a few old crowd pleasers. Do not miss this show! Oh, and for the Baltimore/DC area show, he is opening for a none other than Bob Dylan, with Amos Lee in support.

The Kooks are invading America and DC is next on their agenda. They will be playing 9:30 Club along with the really good Pennsylvania band, Illinois.

A trio of Philly bands will be playing the Rock and Roll Hotel. Dr. Dog, The Teeth and Hoots & Hellmouth are all on the bill. I can't speak for the other bands, but I accidentally caught Hoots & Hellmouth last September and they gave one of the most vital performances that I have ever seen. It was quite spiritual.

DC locals Lejeune and The Antiques will release their long awaited new albums at IOTA. Julie Ocean will be providing support. This is pretty much the only big local show this weekend, but it's quite a good one.

If you are up for a short road trip, there is a nice show happening in Harrisburg, PA. Appalachian Brewing Company is having their 10 year anniversary. To celebrate, they booked bands for the entire day. They will cap it off at night with a free concert that is headlined by The Hold Steady. Hershey, PA's The April Skies will be opening.

Not So New Release Tuesday: My Aim Is True

For this week's classic album, I decided to go back to the 70's and hit Elvis Costello's debut LP. My Aim Is True came out in 1977 (1978 in the states) and it is one of my favorite records. It took Declan Patrick MacManus (Elvis Costello) 7 years to get this album out. Thirty years later and he is still going strong. This is where it all began and it is still a great listen today.
