Saturday and Sunday in DC

Here is a quick rundown of some Saturday and Sunday shows...


On Saturday, City-State and Philly's East Hundred play a show at The Red and The Black.

Friday

It is once again Friday in the region and there are a pair of shows to check out in both Baltimore and DC. Tonight is very good for music.


In Baltimore, there are two big CD release shows. At Sonar, The Seldon Plan is having a soft release for their upcoming full length. Over at Metro Gallery, The Payola Reserve drops their new disc upon the world.

In the fair district, there is a big all local show at Black Cat. The Vita Ruins, City-State and Metropolitan will all be gracing the main stage. In honor of this occasion, The Vita Ruins will be giving away copies of their debut EP to everyone in attendance.

At DC9, Bamboo Shoots are coming to town. They are always entertaining and are sure to not disappoint the masses.

It's Saturday and the weekend is in high gear. There are some serious shows to entertain yourself with this evening.


The big one in DC is at 9:30 Club. Washington Social Club will be releasing their new CD Bigger Than Your Boyfriend. They will be joined by local favorites The Dance Party. To learn more about WSC's thoughts on the new CD and to check out a crazy photo spread, go here.

Another great local show is happening at Galaxy Hut. City-State and J. Forté + the Secret Pop Band will be playing a twin bill that is definitely worth checking out.

There is a nice show happening at The Red and The Black. Moxie Motive and People Noise will be in town. If you aren't familiar with these bands, look into them.

Thursday Night In DC

There are a lot of good shows tonight. This has been a pretty crazy day and I'm running behind, so I'm just going to list them...


Baltimore's Two if by Sea is joined by DC locals The Alphabetical Order and Paul Michel at IOTA. You don't get a much better regional music showcase than this.

Viking Moses, Castanets and Phosphorescent come to DC9. For an evening of interesting singer songwriters, they will be joined by DC's own Jesse Elliott (of These United States).

City-State

DC's City-State is releasing a new album this month. On May 10, they will have a release party for Monument at Black Cat. Philly's A Study In Her contributed a remix to the CD and will be opening the show.

So how is the new material? Well, they took the ideas that they had on their debut EP and expanded on them. There is a lot of layering and they even threw in a string section. They still haven't met their full potential, but they're getting closer. In the end, this is a solid release from a promising band.

We wouldn't be IA, if we didn't have a contest. We will be giving away a grand prize that includes two tickets to the release party and a CD. Two runner ups will receive copies of the CD. The Hourly Radio/City-State Contest

On Monday, there is a pretty good show coming to Black Cat. An excellent Dallas band called The Hourly Radio will be headlining and DC's own City-State will be providing the support.
