Margot and the Nuclear So & Sos Release Two New Albums!

In and epic move of chance, Margot and the Nuclear So & Sos have completed and are releasing two sophomore albums simultaneously. On October 7th, 2008, they’ll release Animal! on vinyl. At the very same time they'll release the CD (and digital) entitled Not Animal. As it goes, the label, Epic Records, and band could not agree on which of the 17 songs recorded for the album should be released, so they mutually decided to have 2 versions of the record. Both records will contain 12 original tracks and 5 of the songs will be found on both records. The band will be traversing the US this summer, trying out some new psychedelic tricks and playing a few of the much loved tracks off of their 1st album, The Dust of Retreat. You can catch them regionally, as follows:

8/12: First Unitarian Church, Philadelphia, PA
8/13: 9:30 Club, Washington, DC

I'll leave you with an oldie, but goodie.

mp3: Skeleton Key

Monday

Le Loup - credit

There is not a whole lot happening today. However, our friends Le Loup are out on the road with Margot and The Nuclear So and So's. You can catch them at Black Cat in DC tonight and at First Unitarian Church in Philly tomorrow. It's a pretty well known fact that their live sound is much different than what is on their album. To prove that point, here is the concert they recorded for KEXP on October 15, during CMJ...

Look To The West
Le Loup (Fear Not)
To The Stars! To The Night!
Sea Took Me
I Had A Dream I Died

Margot and The Nuclear So and So's - Skeleton Key

Middle Distance Runner - credit

Since it's that time of the year, I will leave you with Middle Distance Runner's Holiday single, "XMAS Party." They were nice enough to let us premier it last year and it's just as relevant a year later. They are currently on the road with Mobius Band and The Epochs and they'll be hitting the region later this week. You can check them out as follows:

12/13/07: Mojo 13, Wilmington, DE
12/14/07: Rock and Roll Hotel, Washington, DC
12/15/07: North Star, Philadelphia, PA

DC Shows Tonight

The DC area has a plethora of shows this evening. There are four of note and they include a good bit of international flavor. So there should be a little something for everyone.

Ireland's The Frames will be making a stop at 9:30 Club tonight. Margot & the Nuclear So and So's will be opening for what should be a great evening.

The Frames - Falling Slowly
Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos - Quiet as a Mouse

Brooklyn's Pela and Iceland's Bang Gang will be playing at Rock and Roll Hotel. They will be supported by locals Metropolitan and Five Four.

Pela - Lost To The Lonesome
Bang Gang - It's Alright

Scotland's Aereogramme is playing Black Cat. They are joined by Canada's appropriately named A Northern Chorus.

Aereogramme - A Life Worth Living
A Northern Chorus - The Millions Too Many

Finally, Kristin Hersh brings her arsenal of songs to IOTA. If you are a fan of her solo material, 50FootWave or Throwing Muses, you should be quite happy.

Kristin Hersh - Winter
