Rightly Said

You know, it's been a while since I've received a nice, big, brassy tune from anybody. Wouldn't you know it, Cork City, Ireland's five-piece Fred must have felt my pain. With "Running," they've completely scratched my itch. We've got soaring vocals, nice horns, a powerful chorus--hell, just about everything we might need for a perfect driving around with the windows down mix.

Their third studio album, Go God Go, was released on May 30th in Ireland and made it's way to North America in the fall. You've got to love those multi-label international record deals. You're probably wondering what the six degrees of separation are between Fred and U2, because you're thinking, don't all Irish bands have some link to U2? In this case, you'd be right, as the disc was produced by Mark Wallis, who of course did work with Bono and the boys. Still, you shouldn't think that way, as it smacks of racism, jingoism or some other bad kind of -ism. And you're better than that. As are they.
