Mugison Releases Mugiboogie on Ipecac Recordings
Icelandic singer-songwriter Mugison strikes me as out of control. Still, the part-Tom Waits, part-banshee inspired recordings, captivating vitality and self-taught style, promote his electronic blues quite nicely. “Nicely” is the wrong word. Savagely is probably more accurate.
Mugiboogie, his third official solo release, was recorded in his home studio. Amidst a nervous breakdown and various addictions, his apparent aim was to create something classic, something visceral. “Every song had to sound like it was the last song I’d play if the world was going down,” Mugison states. Here's to the end of the world.
