Get Popped! In Philly

I really can't think of a stranger place for a music festival than the University City section of Philadelphia. To add to the weirdness, the main two days are at different locations, one outside and one inside. The good thing is that the line-up makes up for the other quirks. It is a good mix of local flavor and national acts.

Saturday, the action starts at 1 PM on Drexel's campus (33rd and Market)and the last act takes the stage around 8. Kicking off with The Ting Tings, the first day just explodes from there. Regional faves Hoots and Hellmouth and Dan Deacon will warm up the crowd nicely for the finishing acts Mates of State and Vampire Weekend.

Sunday, the music moves to the World Cafe. Got your sneakers on? You will need them, as there are two stages, upstairs and down, and you will want to be at both. Doors are at 3 and the first band, another local favorite, Cheers Elephant kicks it off upstairs at 4. Another Philly band, Gildon Works opens the downstairs stage. Be sure to check out The Swimmers, Sam Champion and O'Death. To end the evening, it's The Capitol Years and Austin music icon Daniel Johnston.

This festival is supposed to be a green event, so check your carbon footprint before you head out. For all info about parking, tickets, full schedule and more, check out the Popped! Festival website. Here's some tunes to set the mood.
