Annie Stela

When Annie Stela was 22 years old, she performed in the basement studio of Capitol Records for the label president. Two weeks later, she signed. Four years later she dropped the label, seeing as they hadn’t released any of her music and were in the process of being bought out by Virgin. Smart lady. She’s now stepping out with that “$350,000 record that no one has heard”. The Los Angeles-based pianist and songwriter has released Fool on her own terms. Nicole Atkins fans will eat this up.

I saw her open for Joseph Arthur at Jammin' Java about a year and a half ago, and for months after I searched, fruitlessly, for the album she said was about to come out. I'm glad to know it's finally here!
