The Felice Brothers

The Felice Brothers announced this week that they’re in the midst of adding more shows to their never ending touring schedule, and joining in on the SXSW fun. On that note, GQ Magazine named the Felice Brothers the #2 Must See band in their ‘08 SXSW Survival Guide. In addition to all that excitement, their self titled Team Love release hits stores this spring.

Founders, Simone, Ian and James Felice are the three eldest boys from a family of seven, born carpenter's sons in the backwoods of New York's Catskill Mountains. Less than a year ago, they adopted a runaway gambler, a 19 year old called Christmas. They convinced him to quit his job and the quartet forgot all else but song and moved their Sunday BBQ sing-alongs from their dad's upstate house out onto the streets and subways of NYC. After months of toil, living in a 1987 special education bus, with arrests, and genuine hooligan fun, a free-lance music writer named Gabe Soria (Mojo, Vice) stumbled upon the boys singing and barking their wares at a farmers market in Brooklyn and one thing led to another.

I see The Felice Brothers as the perfect band to see anywhere, especially an “anywhere” that includes whisky or wooden bar stools. Rowdy, bona fide Americana, with a hefty dose of soul and hand-clapping. The inevitable romp comes our way this spring.

April 10 – Arlington, VA – IOTA
April 11 – Philadelphia, PA – First Unitarian Church
